Using effectively his original method ‘photo brush’, Akira Okamoto have been making paintings like optics experiments.

He applicates photographic technics to his works without using cameras. In the completely dark room, he uses photographic materials such as films and photographic papers when records lights on photographic paper by giving shape and color to them.

Drawing lights on photographic papers like this achieves a distinctive clarity and a sharpness. And they are difficult to be achieved by the paintings made only from paint materials. By regarding photo developing process as painting, Okamoto shows new aspects of photographic materials and new possibilities of paintings.
